 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lenakinta'nija'peres" 16, 1971 - March 31 1995) Also known as Selena, is an American Tejano performer. Her contribution to fashion and music gave Selena the title of "Queen" of Tejano music. Selena is among the most popular performers from the Mexican-American genre of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her at third in 2020 in their "Greatest Latino Artists List of All Time", which was built on Latin music as well as Latin albums. With regards to her style of dress media outlets dubbed her the Tejano Madonna. She also is among the most famous Latin performers of all time . She is credited for catapulting the Tejano genre into the mainstream market.The youngest of the Quintanilla family, she first appeared on the scene of music as one of the members of the band Selena y Los Dinos, that also included her older siblings A.B. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she was often criticized and was refused bookings at various venues in Texas for her performance of Tejano music, which was a genre that was dominated by males. But her popularity increased after she won the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987, which she won nine times consecutively. The singer signed with EMI Latin in 1989 and released her self-titled debut album the following year. In the meantime, her brother became her primary music producer as well as songwriter.Selena has released Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) that peaked at number one on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight months in a row. Many music critics referred to it as the "breakthrough record" of her career due to its commercial popularity. One of the singles, "Como la Flor" was a big hit and became her signature song. Live! (1993) was nominated for Best Mexican/American Album at 1994 Grammy Awards. It was the first Tejano album to be awarded this prize. Amor Prohibido was her 1994 album. It became one of the most popular Latin albums. The album was widely acclaimed as the first Tejano music album that was commercially viable, and it quickly became one the most well-known Latin subgenres of Latin music in the early days of.
