Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the benefits of football scholarship with volunteerism in the community. First of all Selmon was brought up with Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie. They lived on the farm close to Eufala within Oklahoma as one of their nine children. Also, he was one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was an All-Star for the whole 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award for being the best lineman in the country. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. The team also took home two national championships. Selmon was an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded an award for his third time in 1975. Selmon earned a degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work throughout his time at college. He settled down in Tampa after college, was a member of the Buccaneers for nine seasons and made three times all-pro. His business career began. His first job was as an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. In the past, he worked on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's 10 outstanding young males. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He captained his college team in 1975. In 1993, Roy was a part of at the University of South Florida's athletic department as assistant director. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
